Slain NYPD officer Wilbert Mora, one of the two cops gunned down in the line of duty earlier this month, was given a hero’s farewell at his wake at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Tuesday.

In a scene tragically reminiscent of last week’s wake for Mora’s partner, Detective Jason Rivera, the slain 27-year-old officer’s body arrived at the historic Manhattan church shortly after 11.45 a.m.

Police, mostly Mora’s colleagues from the 32nd precinct, stood shoulder to shoulder in silence along a closed Fifth Avenue as the hearse arrived from a Bronx funeral home.

A single backpiper played “Amazing Grace” as the coffin draped in NYPD flag was lifted out of a hearse and carried into the cathedral.

Minutes after the coffin was inside, a second motorcade arrived with Mora’s family, some of whom gave cops a thumbs up on their way in.

The family were alone with Mora’s body for 45 minutes before 32nd Precinct officers were invited to join them.

Thousands of mourners were expected to pay their respects through to the evening after the doors were opened to the public from 1 p.m.

“They’re true blue heroes,” said Greenlawn resident Tara Garbey, who also paid her respects at Rivera’s wake. “Two police officers were executed, which is bad enough. But when you learn they were such beautiful young men it deepens the grief… New York City has become the wild, wild west.”

Johanna Cassidy, of Rego Park, also showed up to honor the young cop.

“I couldn’t not come and show my support,” she said. “These were two young men going to work, trying to do their jobs, and it breaks your heart that they lost their lives. I feel for the guys in their precinct, who were like family.”

Among those also attending were Mayor Eric Adams, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro, and NYPD PBA President Patrick Lynch — all of whom used a side entrance and did not comment..

“It is a tragedy both officers were killed — Mora and Rivera — and it is important we honor both of them equally,” Benjamin Garcia, 55, who was among the first of the mourners to arrive for Mora’s wake, told The Post.

Garcia, a Guardian Angels patrol director, lives in the same East Harlem neighborhood as the slain officer.

“Officer Mora’s death was a great loss to East Harlem. He was a very beautiful gentleman,” he said.

Mora’s funeral will be held at the church Wednesday morning.

His wake comes just days after a sea of blue descended on 5th Avenue for the funeral of his 22-year-old partner, Rivera, at St. Patrick’s.

Brooklyn resident Rolanda Dixon, 67, who arrived early Tuesday to pray for Mora ahead of the wake, condemned the current spate of gun violence in the Big Apple.

“These officers were too young to die. They didn’t see it coming. They went to help a woman in a domestic violence dispute and lost their lives. And for what? I feel horrible for their families,” Dixon said.

“Police officers need eyes in the back of their heads, the way guns are out of control,” she added. “How many police officers need to die before we get guns off the streets?”

Mora and his partner, who worked at the 32nd Precinct, were shot when a deranged career criminal ambushed them when they responded to a domestic call in Harlem on Jan. 21.

Rivera died that night after both officers were shot in the head.

Mora — a four-year veteran of the force — spent several days on life support in the hospital so he could donate his organs, at his request. He was pronounced dead on Jan. 25.

“Wilbert is 3 times a hero,” NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell tweeted in the wake of his death.

“For choosing a life of service. For sacrificing his life to protect others. For giving life even in death through organ donation.”
