As if trying to fix one of the NBA’s sorriest teams weren’t daunting enough, Net owner Mikhail Prokhorov now hopes to fix Mother Russia, too.

The 6-foot-8 Prokhorov, net worth about $18 billion, wants to be his homeland’s next prime minister.

“I think I am capable of doing the tasks of the prime minister,” Prokhorov, 46, who was recently elected to lead the new Kremlin-friendly Right Cause party, said yesterday in Moscow.

He has been the Nets’ majority owner since May 2010 and owns a 45 percent interest in their future home, the under-construction Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn.

The Nets declined comment concerning the boss’ political aspirations, but a Prokhorov spokeswoman said “day-to-day decision making would remain within the current structure” and “Mikhail would continue to be a great supporter and fan.”

The prime minister — Russia’s second most powerful post — is appointed by the president. Current President Dmitry Medvedev was elected. Vladimir Putin is the prime minister.
