Apple’s fuzzy explanation for the iPhone 4’s software glitch that reportedly causes poor signals and lost calls is all talk, a leading consumer publication says.

Mike Gikas, Consumer Reports’ senior editor for electronics, tested the phone in his Westchester home after a flurry of reports of signal problems when the phone is held a certain way — in the so-called “death grip.”

“The phone actually hung up on me,” Gikas said. “The quality of the signal was going down.”

Apple has denied the “death grip” problem.
