About 150 people became new US citizens at a ceremony on Ellis Island yesterday.

The new citizens took the Oath of Allegiance at the spot that has been the gateway for US immigrants.

Across the country, 3,800 people are becoming naturalized over the July 4 weekend.

Nine ceremonies are being held nationwide for members of the US armed forces and their spouses.

Each year, about 680,000 people become naturalized US citizens.
