LOCKPORT, NY — Officials in a western New York county are hoping to claim a Medal of Honor awarded to a Civil War sailor who died before he could receive it.

Niagara County officials say they want the Pentagon to issue Michael Huskey’s medal — for helping to rescue a gunboat during fighting near Vicksburg, Miss., in 1863 — so they can put the medal on public display.
