Governors Island is on the fast track to getting a lot greener, with workers planting the first of nearly a thousand trees for a new park that is opening a full year ahead of schedule.

An exclusive photo taken by The Post shows tulip trees being installed Wednesday on Outlook Hill — the highest of four peaks that will make up the new park, called The Hills.

Outlook Hill rises 80 feet above the esplanade and offers views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor and parts of Brooklyn.

The Outlook vista will be accessible via a “granite scramble” for climbers, or a more leisurely path that gently winds its way up the side of the bluff.

The scramble is made up of large slabs of repurposed rock, from the island’s original sea wall.

The Hills is set to open this summer, well ahead of its original 2017 launch date, the Governors Island Trust has announced. An exact date has not been released.

The island’s smallest attraction, the 25-foot-high Grassy Hill, offers similar views as Outlook but is more accessible for weary sightseers unwilling to make the climb.

Discovery Hill and Slide Hill will tie for the island’s second-tallest peaks — each standing 40 feet tall. The latter hill will feature four slides that will deliver children through a grove of trees and down to a path below.

The 10-acre park will also include 43,000 new shrubs and almost a thousand trees.

The southern part of the island has been closed to the public since 2013, when the city demolished a vacant building to make way for the new park.
