ALBANY — A last-minute push to revive a plan to let grocery stores sell wine got under way yesterday, with sponsors claiming the state could reap $350 million in tax revenues in its first year.

“For the sake of consumers, growers, our economy and our fiscal stability, this is the right thing to do,” said Assemblyman Joseph Morelle (D-Rochester.)

The sponsors contended the measure would create up to 7,500 jobs and give the public the convenience of buying wine more easily and at cheaper prices.

But legislative insiders said they didn’t expect the attempt to expand wine sales to succeed.
