NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police say 10 detectives have joined local and state fire officials to investigate a suspicious blaze that killed three people, including an 8-year-old boy.
Authorities say the fire early Wednesday in the city’s Fair Haven section is being investigated as a triple homicide. Investigators were looking into reports of a suspicious vehicle parked nearby Tuesday night and seeking tips from the public.
Eight people were injured in the fire, which killed a 42-year-old woman, her son and her niece. Some survivors escaped by jumping from windows, and firefighters rescued others who were cornered by flames.
Officials say the victims were found in a third-floor bedroom, where they were trapped and died of smoke inhalation after the fire started in a second-floor stairwell.
The investigation was continuing Thursday.
