HARTFORD — The Connecticut woman who lost her hands and much of her face when she was mauled by a friend’s pet chimpanzee has been moved from an Ohio hospital to a Boston-area assisted-living center.

A lawyer for Charla Nash’s family said yesterday that Nash would continue rehabbing closer to home and that there was hope for more reconstructive surgery there.

The Cleveland Clinic dispatched Nash Thursday night, and she was flown to the new site, the location of which the family wants to keep private, said lawyer Bill Monaco, of Hauppauge, LI.

“She’s going to be learning some skills necessary to become independent,” he said. “She needs a rehab facility while they assess what they can do for her in the future.”

The 200-pound chimp went berserk in February 2009 after its owner asked Nash to help lure it back into her house. Nash’s hands, nose, lips and eyelids were ripped off, and she has since undergone multiple surgeries.
