A Jersey City man died on July 4th when a firework he was holding exploded into his chest, officials believe.
The 33-year-old man, who has not been identified, was “struck in the chest by a firework” around 1 a.m. Saturday outside a housing complex on Fremont Street, a spokeswoman for the Jersey City mayor’s office said.
He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
“It appears he may have had the device in hand when it exploded, causing fatal injuries,” the spokeswoman, Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, told The Post.
No further details were released.
