Two more deaths have been added to New Jersey’s Hurricane Ida death toll, bringing the storm-ravaged Garden State’s confirmed total to 27, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Saturday.
“I am deeply saddened to report two additional fatalities, bringing our total to 27 New Jerseyans who have lost their lives to this storm,” Murphy said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with every family and community mourning a loved one.”
The remnants of Ida brought catastrophic flooding and several tornadoes to New Jersey. The deadly storm’s tail end battered the Northeast, killing at least 48 people across the region.
The White House announced Saturday President Biden will tour storm-shattered neighborhoods in Queens Tuesday where 13 deaths have been reported. Biden will make a second stop in Manville, New Jersey.

Damage in Manville included a banquet hall that was leveled by an explosion while it was surrounded by surging floodwaters.
