Four New Jersey men were charged Wednesday for stealing $450,000 in checks from dozens of mail collection boxes, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

The Paterson men — Aneuris Henriquez-Lopez, 24, Eleazer Peralta, 19, Fernando Santiago, 26, and Rikinson Rodriguez-Sanchez, 25 — allegedly ripped off letters from boxes in several northern New Jersey counties, and then cashed the checks they found, officials said.

The men would allegedly bust into the mailboxes with a pry bar late at night, according to court documents.

Henriquez-Lopez, Peralta and Santiago were arrested Wednesday and were scheduled to appear in Newark federal court the same day. Rodriguez-Sanchez has been charged but is still at large, officials said.

All four men were charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud and could face up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine if convicted.
