An unhinged New Rochelle man taped a bunch of wires to a broken radio — then tried to detonated it by flicking a flashlight at cops — setting off a panic at the local train station Monday.
The bizarre incident unfolded shortly after 2:30 p.m., when New Rochelle police got a call about a man “attempting to detonate a backpack” at the rail depot.
Cops found Thomas Skoupa, 54, sitting on a bench “wearing a nylon pouch with wires protruding from the pouch and several cigarette lighters attached,” police said.
When cops got closer, Skoupa allegedly pulled out a small flashlight, “turning it on and off several times.”
The device, police said, turned out to be “a radio/Walkman wrapped in electrical tape connected with wires…. and inoperable.”
He was taken into custody and charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony.
