New Target is thronged
Bargain-starved shoppers elbowed their way into Manhattan’s first Target yesterday, as the 174,000-square-foot megastore officially flung open its doors in East Harlem.
“It’s so crowded it’s making my head hurt,” said Ray Lindsay, 52, of The Bronx. “You can get lost in a huge place like this. But at least the prices are good.”
The long-awaited arrival at East River Plaza, on East 116th Street, has created 400 jobs, more than half filled by East Harlemites, officials said.
The store is expected to generate $90 million in its first year, more than three times the take at a suburban Target.
