New taxi-hail storm idea
A City Councilman who sued to block Mayor Bloomberg’s five-borough taxi plan has a new idea to settle the dispute.
Lew Fidler (D-Brooklyn) wants the council to create special “hail zones” for livery cars outside shopping centers and train stations in the outer boroughs.
The measure would include the sale of 2,000 yellow-taxi medallions — a key part of Bloomberg’s plan that has been scuttled by the lawsuit.
The sale could generate an estimated $1.4 billion for the city.
