SUNY officials yesterday approved a first-of-its-kind charter-school resuscitation plan that will bring in new management and staff rather than shutter a failing school.

The deal will allow Democracy Prep Public Schools, a 5-year-old organization that currently runs two Manhattan charter schools, to take over operations at Harlem Day Charter School on East 123rd Street.

The intervention saves Harlem Day from near-certain closure after just 20 percent of students scored at grade level in reading last year and fewer than 25 percent did so in math.

“In those cases where schools have failed to live up to their promises, we are working to find a way to hold the school and adults accountable but reduce the disruption . . . for both parents and students,” said SUNY Trustee Dr. Pedro Noguera. yoav.gonen@nypost.com
