There’s a new taxi chief in town.

New Taxi and Limousine Commission chief David Yassky said he was “very distressed” when he learned that many cabdrivers snookered passengers out of $8.3 million.

His first public words on the scandal came during his City Council confirmation hearing yesterday.

He said it was an “immediate priority” to “reassure passengers that they will not be overcharged in taxi cabs.”
