A husband and wife who were described as “inseparable” died together in a New Year’s Day car crash in Queens — their car rammed by a pickup truck whose driver then bolted on foot, police said.
The Dodge Ram barreled into a Nissan Rogue, pinning the doomed pair inside, just after 5 a.m. Friday at Rockaway Freeway and Ocean Crest Boulevard in Far Rockaway, cops said.
The driver of the Nissan SUV was identified as Thelma Reid, 60, and her passenger was Donovan Gibbon, 57, police said. The Far Rockaway couple were rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital but could not be saved.
The truck driver was being sought, but his two passengers, men ages 37 and 33, stayed in the truck, cops said. The 37-year-old was hospitalized for injuries to his leg and head.
The 33-year-old argued with cops and was expected charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction, cops said.
The tragic couple had been married for eight years and had been on their way to work at LSG Sky Chefs at JFK Airport, ABC News reported.
Reid had resisted working on New Year’s Day, her day off, relenting only when her bosses begged her, neighbor Judith Holliday told The Post, describing the pair as always together. Reid is survived by her two adult daughters.
