Preparations were under way Saturday for the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square, including getting 25,000 purple and yellow balloons ready to be handed out to revelers.
The balloons were air-filled on site at One Times Square, but luckily workers for Balloon Affairs of Baldwinsville, NY, didn’t have to huff and puff.
“We have balloon blowers” — machines that do the hard work, explained Dan Magowan, whose company has been handling the Times Square balloon operation for a quarter century.
“There’s about 15 miles of streamers on them,” he added of the balloons, which are latex and bio-degradable.
