The New York tourist who was arrested in Japan for killing a woman, dismembering her body and then burying the parts across several cities was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to eight years behind bars this week, according to reports.

Long Islander Yevgeniy Vasilievich Bayraktar, 27, was sentenced Tuesday after admitting strangling Saki Kondo, 27, at an Osaka apartment in February last year, then using a knife to hack up her corpse, according to the Tokyo Reporter.

Police first arrested the Mastic Beach man when a disembodied head was found inside a suitcase in an apartment he’d rented — and he then guided cops to the mountains of Osaka, where he’d buried her torso and arms, and to the woods in Kyoto, where her legs had been dumped.

Prosecutors didn’t indict Bayraktar for murder because they couldn’t prove he intended to kill Kondo, according to Japan Today.

But they argued in court that he acted “selfishly and ruthlessly” and tried to conceal evidence by deleting his account on the dating site he used to meet her.

“You also bought a saw and used your smartphone to look up how to dismember a body,” a prosecutor said during the trial, according to the Tokyo Reporter.

His lawyers argued that he never intended to kill the woman and is sorry for his actions.

“I will be burdened with this crime until the day I die,” Bayraktar said during the trial, according to the news outlet. “I am so sorry.”

Prosecutors had asked for the American to be locked up for 13 years, and Kondo’s father told reporters that the eight-year sentence is “too light and the truth remains unknown,” according to Japan Today.
