The New York Public Library says it will close all of its 92 locations starting Saturday through at least March 31 to help minimize the spread of coronavirus.

“The best way we can serve our patrons now is to help contain the virus, especially as our patrons include many seniors and others at high risk,” NYPL President Tony Marx said in a statement Friday.

Friday is the last day that patrons can pick up books, the library system said. NYPL has already suspended public programming.

Late fees will be suspended during the closure, access to e-books will be expanded, and branches will be cleaned before March 31.

The 92nd Street Y, the NewYork Historical Society, and the Museum of the City of New York also closed Friday.

A host of other city cultural institutions shuttered Thursday including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
