State health officials only learned about an accused killer cardiologist from The Post’s reporting on the story Tuesday — and said they are now considering suspending his medical license.

“After first learning of these heinous criminal allegations through media reports today, the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC) immediately began reviewing all options which under law include moving to immediately suspend a physician’s license pending the outcome of a full investigation,” said a rep in a statement for the Health Department, which oversees the licensing body.

“Our No. 1 priority is the safety of patients, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure this physician does not pose a risk to patients,” the spokeswoman added.

The rep’s comments came after The Post exclusively reported on Harvard-trained cardiologist Vignendra Ariyarajah, who is accused of killing his mistress’s baby in Brooklyn because she was pregnant by another man.

At a court hearing Tuesday, Ariyarajah’s lawyer said his client is continuing to practice in Brooklyn, even as he wears an electronic ankle bracelet as a condition of his $750,000 bond on criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter raps.

The lawyer, Matt Myers, has maintained the doctor’s innocence.
