Infections are down — so surf’s up!

Beaches and pools across New York can open for Memorial Day — with six-foot distancing — as COVID-19 rates plunge statewide, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

He aims to have them open at 100 percent capacity by July 4.

The Empire State’s low infection rate of 1 percent — just a fourth of the national rate — is a promising sign that “a normal summer” is on the horizon, Cuomo said.

“We have to get on with life, and we want to have a great summer,” he said. “Our goal is by the 4th of July to go to 100 percent capacity at all beaches and pools. If the numbers keep going the way they’re going, we’re going to be able to do that. So, we would actually be able to have a normal summer.”

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio had already announced his plans to have Big Apple beaches open for Memorial Day. He also said that 48 of the city’s 53 public outdoor pools will open the day after Gotham’s last day of school on June 26. The remaining five are closed for rehabilitation.
