A New York state trooper was shot in the leg during a traffic stop on a Long Island parkway Wednesday night, sources and authorities said.
The shooting unfolded around 11:30 p.m. on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 17, according to state police and sources.
The trooper had pulled over a black Dodge Charger and during the car stop they were shot by a person in the vehicle, according to sources.

The driver of the Charger fled and police were searching for the vehicle early Thursday, the sources said.
