New Yorkers may act tough, but we’re softies when it comes to tipping.
The Big Apple is home to the nation’s highest average tip amounts for Lyft drivers — with residents dropping up to $1,000 in extra cash on any given night, according to the ride-sharing service.
New York City ranks first among US cities and regions, followed by Westchester County, Dallas, Detroit and San Jose, Calif. The largest tip from a New Yorker last year was $1,000.
According to officials, Lyft drivers have earned more than a half-billion dollars in tips, with more than half of them being given in 2017.
The average tip amount increased by 8 percent last year, officials said.
The data also showed that drivers who work on Friday and Saturday nights are 35 to 40 percent more likely to receive a tip.
