US military planes buzzed over Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon as part of a routine exercise, officials said.

The three planes soared over Midtown and other parts of Manhattan just after 4 p.m., freaking out New Yorkers who watched from below.

Federal Aviation Administration officials said the US military was conducting the flights with help from air-traffic controllers.
