This week’s warm spell has triggered a dash to the gym by New Yorkers desperate to shed their winter weight before bikini season.
“I think people are in panic mode that summer is coming and it’s time to get in shape,” said Ava Improta, of Union Square’s Pure Barre workout center.
The past two days’ record-breaking temps — Wednesday hit 77 and Thursday peaked at 79 — were a wake-up call for those who want to shed some pounds before the sun forces them to ditch their coats for more revealing styles.
“There’s a little bit more of a sense of urgency,” said Hector Sanchez, who coaches at Structure Personal Fitness on the Upper East Side. “People have to get ready to go to the Hamptons.”
The two-day warm streak is expected to fizzle out Friday due to a “cold” front that will drop temperatures to 65 degrees.
“It won’t be anywhere near the record heat we’ve had the past few days, but it’s still going to be quite nice,” said AccuWeather’s Paul Walker.
