As New Yorkers swelter through the season’s first heat wave, finding an oasis might depend on where they work.

As the mercury hit a muggy 91 degrees Wednesday, butchers at Fairway Market in Harlem happily toiled away in a refrigerated room kept at 38.

“On a day as hot as today, yes, this is a good place to be working,” said Melchor Aguirre, 35.

On the flip side, Nathan’s fry cook Carlos DeOleo, 24, griped as he lowered baskets of shrimp and clams into boiling oil, “On hot days like this, it’s very hard to work.”

New Yorkers might feel as if they’re in the fry basket the rest of the week. Accuweather senior meteorologist Tom Kines said temperatures will top 90 through Saturday.
