Protesters and public officials blasted the concealed-carry bill that passed the House of Representatives last week in a Saturday City Hall rally.
The legislation would allow gun owners who have concealed-carry permits for one state to legally bring their firearms into all states.
“They basically said, ‘We don’t care about you. We don’t care about victims’ safety,’” said Kim Russell, 49, co-founder of the Moms Demand Action advocacy group and a mugging survivor.
“The brunt of this will be on us, because we will have safety nowhere in this country,” Russell said.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is “such a silly law,” said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. Also protesting bill were Democratic members of Congress Carolyn Maloney, Joe Crowley and Kathleen Rice, along with Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark and acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
“What works in a rural area is not going to work in Manhattan,” Vance said.
