Newark police yesterday arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a pizzeria drive-by shooting that killed an off-duty cop in a hail of bullets — though the suspected gunman remained at large.

Rasul McNeil-Thomas, 19, was arrested at 5:20 p.m. at his home in Newark, and charged with carjacking, conspiracy and weapons offenses.

Authorities said McNeil-Thomas and the suspected gunman stole a car at gunpoint and used it in the shooting. They didn’t say if he identified his accomplice.

Two other customers were wounded but survived Thursday night’s attack, which left Officer William Johnson, 45, dead.

Authorities said it didn’t appear Johnson was the target.

“There is still a deep sense of pain for the loss of this officer,” Mayor Cory Booker said.

“But there is a sense of gratitude, of pride and relief that [investigators] are getting to the closing strides to find who is responsible for these crimes.”

Video showed Johnson didn’t have time to draw a weapon.
