The MTA will eliminate another 1,000 jobs this year as it scrambles to close a $378 million budget shortfall.

Yesterday’s announcement marks a second wave of layoffs, attrition and unfilled job vacancies.

Along with in-house savings, the agency will pocket $110 million this year.

But the job reductions will almost certainly mean dirtier subway cars and more graffitied windows, shorter LIRR and Metro-North trains, fewer public-address alerts on platforms and fewer ushers at Grand Central Terminal.
