‘Niro’-death experience
Look out below!
This lucky-to-be alive electrician was scouting locations in Little Italy for a Robert De Niro film yesterday when he was nearly impaled by a plummeting 20-foot steal beam that pierced the roof of his pickup truck less than a foot from his head.
“I feel very lucky,” said Mike Prisco, 29, after walking away from the harrowing incident without a scratch. “I almost died.”
Prisco was in his vehicle on Mulberry Street near Prince Street at about 1:30 p.m. when the beam fell from a building under construction.
“I was on the phone with the locations manager, and I heard a loud bang and jumped up,” he said. “I thought I was rear-ended and I got out, and I saw a beam sticking out of my roof.
“The first thing I did, I called 911,” said Prisco, who has a 17-month-old daughter. “The second thing I did was call my boss and tell him I was going to be a little late.”
Prisco was on his second day of work for “Another Night in Suck City,” which begins filming this month. It’s about a man who volunteers at a homeless shelter and runs into his alcoholic father, played by De Niro.
