The president of the Elizabeth, NJ, Board of Education and two others were arrested yesterday and charged with defrauding the district’s free-lunch program, authorities said.
The state Attorney General’s Office said the theft cost the district $7,000 over five years.
Board President Marie Munn and two others with connections to the district signed up their children for the lunch program although they didn’t meet income guidelines.
Besides Munn, the husband of the district’s head of custodians and the ex-wife of a school principal were arrested in their homes yesterday morning.
They could get five years in prison if convicted.
