A New Jersey election worker died of COVID-19 after an outbreak at a county office, according to a report.

The unidentified employee worked at the Salem County board of elections office, NJ.com reported Monday, citing officials.

A worker in the county office tested positive a few days after Election Day, and weeks later, the single case was linked to 14 others, the report said.

Officials later reported a total of 17 confirmed cases related to the outbreak, including the worker who died.

It’s not clear if the person was a temporary elections worker or a full-time county worker.

Despite the outbreak in Salem County, election workers last month continued counting ballots — and were granted an extension by Gov. Phil Murphy, the report said.
