A 90-year-old New Jersey man has been arrested for fatally shooting his female neighbor — with the gunshots heard at police headquarters near the crime scene, authorities said.
The deadly attack happened Saturday in Trenton following an ongoing dispute between the elderly suspect, Clent Morris, and the unidentified neighbor, police told The Trentonian.
Police headquarters is located across the street from the scene and three detectives “were close enough to hear the gunfire” and immediately respond, the force said.
“The detectives saw a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds,” police said in a release.
They then “entered the house where they found Clent Morris suffering from a wound to his eye,” the force said, without elaborating.
The 90-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said a handgun was recovered. Neither the victim’s name nor age were immediately released.
“It appears that the suspect and victim knew each other and have had disputes with each other in the past,” Trenton Police said in the news release.
“Detectives with the Mercer County Homicide Task Force will lodge the appropriate charges at the completion of their investigation.”
