FREEHOLD, N.J.— A New Jersey man has admitted stabbing his estranged wife numerous times in a 2009 New Year’s Day attack that was overheard by a 911 operator.

Thirty-five-year-old Juan Rojas of Edison pleaded guilty to attempted murder and eluding.

Under a plea agreement with Monmouth County prosecutors, Rojas will face up to 15 years in prison when he’s sentenced in January.

Prosecutors say Rojas broke into his estranged wife’s Freehold Township condominium and stabbed her approximately 19 times before police arrived.

Authorities say Rojas then led officers on a high-speed pursuit that ended when he surrendered in Perth Amboy.

Prosecutors say his estranged wife consented to the plea agreement.
