TOMS RIVER, N.J. — His lawyer says the superintendent of New Jersey’s fourth-largest school district will surrender to face corruption charges.
Jerome Ballarotto told The Associated Press Toms River Schools superintendent Michael Ritacco is en route to the FBI’s Newark office.
The lawyer says Ritacco was unaware the FBI had planned to arrest him Thursday morning. Ballarotto says when he found out, Ritacco drove to the lawyer’s Trenton office. However, the lawyer was in Florida.
Ballarotto has arranged another attorney to accompany Rittaco for a 2 p.m. court appearance.
FBI agents went to Ritacco’s Seaside Park home and Toms River office before dawn.
