Nearly 70 years after an Army soldier from New Jersey died on a Korean War battlefield, his remains have been identified and properly buried.

Pfc. Albert Atkins, 20, and two other men from his combat team went missing May 23, 1951, near Mae-Bong, South Korea, as they tried to secure “Hill 911.”

In 1966, locals discovered their remains, but the Department of Defense could only identify two of the men.

The remains of the third man, Atkins, were buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii but identified only as “X-6385.” They were finally matched to relatives.
