Maria Niotis’ mother could only weep when she reached her daughter’s casket Friday. 

The New Jersey teen killed by her alleged stalker in a sickening hit-and-run that also left her pal dead was remembered as a “wonderful young lady” as distraught loved ones gathered to mourn a promising life cut short. 

Maria, 17, was laid to rest as more than 100 inconsolable family and friends crammed into St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Union, many of whom were stunned high school classmates still coming to grips with the senseless loss.

The procession was ultimately standing room only with every pew filled with mourners.  

“I know many of you knew Maria and now you cannot forget her face,” the priest told the teens during the solemn service.

“Many of you were in the same class, started together. It’s very unfortunate and frustrating situation that the family and the community is facing today.”

Maria’s remains were in a white casket draped with a Greek flag and a bouquet of red roses placed on top. When Maria’s mother Foulla Niotis reached the front of the church, she broke down in tears over her daughter’s casket.

“I’m not standing here today not just as a mother, but as Maria’s mother, and that is the greatest title I will ever hold,” Foullas said the night before outside the wake for her daughter.  

“She had a laugh that could soften the hardest day and a heart that cared deeply for everyone,” she added, according to a video taken by NJ.com.

She said she wakes up every day hoping her child’s violent death was only a nightmare.

“Hoping to hear that sweet, ‘I love you, mom, dad,’” Foulla said.

At least 16 bouquets of flowers were scattered around the church.

Photos of Maria on display dating back to when she was an infant showed how beloved she was by family and how many adoring friends she made in just 17 short years.

The pics always showed her with a smile on her face whether she was playing in a ball pit or enjoying the beach as a little girl, spending time with her parents and twin brother or hanging with other family.  

Other photos showed her making silly faces with her friends, celebrating birthdays and holidays, and beaming during vacations.

Her family wrote in an obituary she had dreams of graduating high school and starting a flourishing career in cosmetology.  

She was born in Greece and lived most of her life in Cranford. She was in the middle of her senior year at Cranford High School when she was killed.

The girl and her best friend Isabella Salas were mercilessly killed when 17-year-old Vincent Battiloro allegedly rammed into their e-bike at 70 mph on a Cranford street Monday evening.

Family and friends have claimed Battiloro was stalking Maria for months, including creepily sitting in a car outside her house.

He’s facing two counts of first-degree murder and is currently in custody but in juvenile court.

Maria’s funeral service was led by the priest and didn’t include a eulogy by a family member or friend, which is customary for a Greek Orthodox service.

“I know in the crowd is young people who came to pay their respects to Maria,” the priest said at one point.

“And on behalf of the family, I would like to personally thank you for coming to pay your respects to this wonderful young lady who lost her life so tragically.”

Visiting hours for Isabella are set for Saturday at Dooley Funeral Home with a graveside funeral scheduled for Monday morning at Fairview Cemetery.
