A “trespasser” was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train near Newark Airport, sparking major morning commute delays Wednesday morning while efforts to get across the Hudson were already hampered by a bus stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel.
Trains going in and out of New York’s Penn Station were subject to up to hour-long waits after the deadly incident, which was first reported by the agency around 8:15 a.m.
Then around 8:40 a.m. a bus driving in the center tube of Lincoln Tunnel’s Exclusive Bus Lane (XBL) experienced a mechanical failure.

Christopher SadowskiThe disabled bus caused further delays of up to one hour in one of Manhattan’s main arteries, and “congestion in the area was exacerbated by additional disabled vehicles,” a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesperson told The Post.
No injuries were reported on the bus, and the incident did not involve a collision, the spokesperson said.
NJ Transit said train tickets were being cross-honored system-wide and by PATH at Hoboken, Newark Penn Station and 33rdSt-NY.
Additional information about the deceased victim and how they were struck has not been released.
The fatality comes hours after a man stabbed three people aboard an NJ Transit Light Rail train between the Norfolk and Orange Street stations in Newark around 12:30 a.m., according to PIX11.
