A 53-year-old New Jersey woman was rescued from a fast-spreading fire in Paterson — only to die after running back into the blaze to save her dog, reports say.

The fire broke out just before 1:45 a.m. Sunday morning and quickly spread to two wood-frame homes at 489 and 491 Summer Street, according to NorthJersey.com

It moved to a five-alarm fire within 15 minutes, authorities said.

Felicia Hernandez De La Cruz, a local food stand owner, was found dead after more than 120 firefighters put out the blaze, the report said.

De La Cruz had been pulled to safety but had run back inside to save her dog, The Daily Voice reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Two firefighters were injured while battling the blaze and were treated at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston for burns, the report says.
