A woman fatally shot her husband in the face inside their New Jersey home this week, according to police and prosecutors. 

Antonia Ashford, 44, was charged with murder Monday in connection to the pre-dawn slaying of Roderick Ashford, 47, at their Jackson Township home, according to a press release from Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and local Police Chief Matthew Kun.

Police responded to the couple’s home around 2:15 a.m. after receiving a 911 call indicating that a man had been shot. 

Officers found Ashford lying unresponsive on the floor, with a gunshot wound to the face. 

Police tried to save him, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene, authorities said. 

Antonia Ashford was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she is being held pending a detention hearing.
