Norris Church Mailer, the author and widow of legendary writer Norman Mailer, died at her Brooklyn home this morning.

She was 61 years old.

Mailer, who published a memoir and two novels, was surrounded by her two sons, as she succumbed to cancer.

She met Norman in 1975 at a party for one of his books in her home state of Arkansas and soon started dating the larger-than-life literary figure.

In 1978, they had their only child, John Buffalo, and married two years later.

She was Norman’s sixth and final wife.

She had another son, Matthew, from a previous marriage.

Norman died at the age of 84 in 2007.
