New Yorkers should be careful dashing home this weekend.

More rounds of rain and snow are expected to smash the northeastern US this week. FOX WeatherThe Big Apple could be coated with anywhere between 3 and 6 inches of snow while the Interstate 287 corridor between New Jersey and New York could be hit with possibly 8 inches, AccuWeather senior meteorologist Tyler Roys told The Post.
“For those who love snow in the city, there are some good signs pointing to there being accumulation,” Roys said.
He noted parts of Long Island also can’t rule out as much as 8 inches of snow.
Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn are likely to be on the lower side of the predicted snowfall, Roys added.
Upstate New York could get 3 to 5 inches of snow. Paul Martinka for NY PostOld Man Winter will start causing havoc around 3 p.m. Friday and will stop by around 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the forecast.
Forecasters are also monitoring if sleet could mix into the winter storm, most likely to the south and west of the city, making travel conditions even more hazardous.
Predictions are consistent with the fact that rain, snow and ice will arrive in the Northeast by Friday and will last into Saturday. Paul Martinka for NY Post“The likelihood of 3 to 6 inches is quite definite for the area,” Roys said. “So travel is going to be impacted basically starting with whatever the Friday evening commute … into the Saturday morning hours.”
He added the snow that’s coming to most of the area won’t be good for kids looking to build their own Frosty the Snowman or getting ready for a snowball fight because it’ll be on the fluffier side.
Acting city Department of Sanitation Commissioner Javier Lojan said the agency launched its operations “well in advance of this storm, and we are ready for whatever comes our way.”

By the time night comes, the temperatures could be in the upper teens in the colder parts of the region, according to the forecast.
Big Apple officials issued a travel advisory between Friday evening and Saturday morning, as outgoing Mayor Eric Adams said commuters should avoid driving when possible and pad in more time if using public transit.
“As New Yorkers continue to celebrate the holidays and prepare to celebrate the New Year, they should also prepare for hazardous travel conditions Friday into Saturday,” Adams said in a statement.
