A note was left in a Catholic church in The Bronx over the weekend that contained death threats against non-believers of the Muslim religion, police sources said Monday.
The letter — found at St. Barnabas Church on East 241st Street in Woodlawn around 6 p.m. Sunday — threatened that Mohammad “led many battles to slay unbelievers and the hour is coming to kill you for God’s work,” sources said.
A parishioner handed Father Anthony Mizzi-Gili the note, explaining that he had found it. He then fled the sanctuary, the sources said.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating, police said.
