They might have to widen the sidewalks again.

The city is on pace to welcome as many as 52.4 million tourists this year — up from the previous record of 50.5 million last year, a tourism official said.

George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Co., said the increase is due to high numbers of visitors from South America, especially from Brazil.

He said city officials are trying to capitalize on the boom by lobbying Washington to remove visa requirements for Brazil’s New York-loving travelers.

When asked what accounted for the enormous attraction of the Big Apple, Mayor Bloomberg joked, “The mayor.”
