CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — A Long Island man is facing drunken driving charges after police say he struck two pedestrians, killing one of them.

Victor Ventuzelo of Islip Terrace was awaiting arraignment Monday in District Court in Central Islip. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.

Suffolk County Police say Ventuzelo was driving in Central Islip at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when he struck two pedestrians. Laurance Grube, 40, of Mastic, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The second man, Warren Connolly, 44, of Central Islip, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Ventuzelo initially left the accident scene, but returned an hour later.

He also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and aggravated DWI because his 9-year-old son was in the car.
