A Delta flight that had taken off from La Guardia Airport early yesterday and was to touch down at Boston’s Logan Airport was forced to do a “go-around” when a plane taxied across the landing runway without authorization, FAA officials said.

The aviation disaster almost occurred when Delta Flight 1386 was arriving at Logan at around 3:40 p.m. and was blocked on Runway 4R by American Airlines Flight 349, a Boeing 737.

A passenger on the Delta flight, an Airbus A319, told Fox 25 TV in Boston that the planes passed within 300 feet of each other.

No one was injured, and the American Airlines flight headed to Dallas later in the evening.

The FAA and American Airlines are investigating.
