NY link in Iran ‘plot’
A contractor from New York was busted yesterday for allegedly trying to export restricted technology from the United States to Iran.
Richard Phillips, 53, was charged in Brooklyn federal court after he tried to ship what he believed to be a large spool of industrial carbon fiber to Tehran in violation of US laws prohibiting the delivery of high-tech goods there, officials said.
Phillips first answered an ad on a Web site asking for help circumventing the US embargo, the feds said.
But the ad was a government sting run by undercover agents.
He was busted after allegedly agreeing to ship the material through the Philippines to disguise its final destination.
His lawyer declined comment.
