WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A 33-year-old man has admitted that he killed his mother and stepfather by beating them and setting their house on fire.
The man, Jason Bethea (beth-EE’-uh) of Peekskill, pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder in Westchester County Court.
Prosecutors alleged that on Oct. 25, Bethea beat his mother, Cathy Asaro, to death and beat his stepfather, Thomas Asaro, to the brink of death. Both were 51.
He then set their Peekskill house ablaze, and the stepfather died of burns and smoke inhalation.
In January, prosecutors reported that Bethea claimed he was drunk and couldn’t remember his actions.
Bethea faces at least 25 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 12 by state Supreme Court Justice Richard Molea (MO-lee).
